Baucom Denim creates heirloom-quality workwear pieces for everybody.
In 2023, Kelsey Baucom took her decades of experience in tailoring and garment construction and established Baucom Denim.
Kelsey is a longtime collector of vintage workwear and antique denim, and many of her favorite pieces can be seen in her studio in Nashville, Tennessee where they are used for inspiration and further study.
This appreciation for heritage sewing techniques was enhanced by her time working for Levi’s Tailor Shop in Manhattan. When she relocated to Nashville, she quickly worked to refine the tailoring and repairs program for the landmark denim brand Imogene + Willie.
Meanwhile, Kelsey was working on another project:
Developing the pattern for a pair of denim to fill a gap in the market for women’s heritage workwear.
This pattern would go through many iterations that Kelsey made for herself and for her friends, but made with such similar specifications that the pattern became known as “The Usual.”
This pattern has become the core style for Baucom Denim. The Usual is an ode to the standard of quality and fit found in 1930’s-40’s women’s workwear. It is designed to sit high up at the natural waist while offering generous room in the hip and thigh. This allows for freedom of movement while maintaining a flattering fit - just how workwear should be.
Baucom Denim is made to measure, cut and sewn using heritage techniques on antique machines.
Baucom Denim is known for Kelsey’s ability to design a pattern that fits a wide range of bodies. The fitting size run kept at the studio in Nashville is from size 24 to 34, and the models shown throughout this site are sizes 25 to 32.
